Varsity All Access | Notable games for Week-6

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) — We’ve reached the back of the schedule for the 2022 high school football season. The Marquis Matchup of the Week takes place in Alcoa on Thursday night when the tornadoes welcome Knoxville West. Also on the program: Maryville travels to Science Hill, Greeneville to Dobyns-Bennett and our VAA Game of the Week, Karns to Carter.

WEST (5-0) AT ALCOA (5-0) – 7 p.m

This week in high school football begins with an extravaganza. Undefeated and runner-up West Rebels (Class-5A) take on undefeated and ranked 1st-ranked Alcoa Tornados (Class-3A). Both teams make impressive starts while dominating their opponents. The Tornadoes are amassing nearly 45 points per game while Lamar Brown’s Rebels are dropping just 8 points per game. Both teams are solid and don’t fight each other. Last season, Alcoa won a thriller at West. The Rebels will be looking for a little revenge this time. You can see how it all plays out on Thursday night starting with the pregame show at 6:30pm, kick off at around 7pm on MyVLT.

KARNS (4-1) AT CARTER (2-3) – 7pm

Our Varsity All Access Game of the Week takes us to Carter, where the Green Hornets are looking to get back to .500 with a win over Karns. Problem is, this isn’t your parents’ Karns team. The Beavers, behind the race of Class 5A Mr. Football Desean Bishop, have been gnawing their way through the competition. Bishop has already run more than a thousand yards and is on his way to winning back-to-back Mr. Football titles. Meanwhile, after losing their first three games, the Hornets have won back-to-back games, including a 56-8 defeat of Scott last week.

MARYVILLE (4-1) AT SCIENCE HILL (3-2) – 7 p.m

The mighty Maryville Red Rebels take on the top running back and Virginia sign Noah Vaughn Friday night in Upper East Tennessee to face the Science Hill Toppers. The toppers are 2-3 on the season. Both teams share a common opponent in Powell, with the Toppers slipping past the Panthers 31-24 and the Red Rebels easily winning 38-13. Maryville’s only loss came at home to arch-rivals Alcoa.

BEARDEN (3-2) AT FULTON (2-3) 19:00

It’s been an interesting season for Bearden first-year head coach Josh Jones. After losing to West in the season opener, the Bulldogs picked up three straight wins before falling to Maryville in Blount County last week. The Falcons, who lost three straight games, stopped the bleeding last Friday by scoring 61 points in a 61-55 win over Gibbs. Fulton’s talented Mr. Everything, quarterback MarMar Jackson, contributed over 400 yards and 4 touchdowns to the win.

GREENEVILLE (5-0) AR DOBYNS-BENNETT (5-0) – 7 p.m

It’s another battle of the undefeated as Greeneville travels to Kingsport to take on DB 5-0. The Indians rank 5th in the state in Class-6A while the Greene Devils top the Class-4A standings. Should be fun on Friday night at DB.
