As we near the end of 2022, it’s time to revisit the very best gaming experiences of the year. Read on for the top ten games of 2022.

10 Gran Turismo 7

Sony’s top racing simulator returned for another glorious outing. The level of polish here is matched only by the insane depth at which players can engage with the endless list of cars, tracks, and tuning options. Sony also seems to have broken new ground with the presentation GT7 feel more rounded and accessible than previous entries in the series.

While anyone can pick up a controller and race around the track in a Porsche, the genius of the Gran Turismo Series lies in its depth, rewarding drivers for actual improvements as they advance their careers and expand their garage. The realism of physics in GT7 is not one of the best of all racing simulators and the details of the cars will entice Motörheads to play for hours.

9. immortality

Unique in style and gameplay, immortality It deserves its place on this list, perhaps because it deviates so much from the norm or because it manages to blend the line of film and game so well. Players are tasked with guessing the fate of an asterisk named Marissa Marcel, but must do so by reviewing scenes and specifics from three unreleased films out of order.

The production values are off the charts and the experience manages to be convincing as hell – a feat not always matched in games of this genre. When a game is so different and so successful in its gameplay, recognition among the top games of the year is usually not far behind.

8th. bayonet 3

Nintendo’s bayonet returned for a third outing with new dynamics, bigger fights, and more challenging gameplay. Hacking and slicing through the endless action, Bayonetta will join familiar and new faces to rid the world of a new supernatural threat.

The mix of time-slowing mechanics, masterful combat, and new companion demons upped the ante of previous entries in the series. While the graphics can’t compete with the other games on this list (it’s a Switch-only version), the gameplay and continuation of a story that started in 2009 make it a highlight of the 2022 series.

7. Xenoblade Chronicles 3

One of several open-world action RPG games this year, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is not commonplace, if only because of its lineage and that it forms the conclusion of the long-running series. Those who are not fans of Xenoblade Chronicles will probably already find it difficult to pick up and play, but it’s a worthwhile endeavor to start at the beginning if action-based fighting games are your thing. For longtime fans, however, this is the reward of a string of many games and proves that Nintendo knows how to cater to its loyal fanbase.

6. A Plague Tale: Requiem

Maybe it’s because of our changing times A Plague Tale: Requiem now feels more poignant than its predecessor A Plague Story: Innocence did it in 2019. Then again, praising a game about two characters dodging the Inquisition and plague-infested rats still feels odd. Play through requiem– whether you opt for combat-focused encounters with enemies or take a more stealthy approach – yields an immersive experience that will have players enjoying this sequel even more than the original. Between the gameplay, the puzzles and the story of a brother and sister looking for safety, this supernatural game definitely leaves an impression.

5. Stray

Hard to imagine at first glance Stray as engaging and entertaining as it is. Play as ordinary stray cat in 3rd person POV, Stray invites players to explore the back streets and rooftops of a gloomy cybercity. The playful nature of a cat-protagonist game inevitably gives way to intriguing interactions with the city’s robotic citizens and a series of parkour and puzzle games that take the feline hero deeper into the mysterious underbelly of this grim future. Stray is a stunningly beautiful, possibly too short, game that is as memorable as it is unique.

4. Horizon forbidden west

The second entry of Guerrilla Games in the horizon series brings back iconic redhead Aloy to continue the adventure they started in 2017. Now older and aware of her unique origins, Aloy traverses the vast and beautifully landscaped landscape of the US West Coast after a swarm of robots caused an extinction event that left humanity oddly primitive when compared to the robots lurking around every corner.

The action RPG style gameplay perfectly matches the massive open world for players to explore and conquer while continuing Aloy’s fascinating story as (a sort of) chosen one tasked with restoring the Earth’s biosphere. Featuring a larger map, new underwater explorations, punched out weapons and improved climbing, Forbidden West deserves its place as one of the best games of 2022.

3. Grounded

First introduced as a pre-release in 2020, Grounded was officially launched in 2022 and gives players the opportunity Honey, I shrunk the kids Style experience surviving the big bad world of a backyard as an ant sized figure. Starting with little more than the ability to collect twigs and pebbles, Grounded empowers players to build massive bases, craft armor and weapons, and face off against black widow spiders and fire ants, all while solving the mystery of how they shrunk and what it takes to escape this surprisingly dangerous landscape.

obsidian entertainment (South Park: The Stick of Truth, Fallout: New Vegas, The Outer Worlds) absolutely nails the graphics and gameplay that are both terrifying and addictive Grounded a must-play on Xbox or PC.

2. God of War Ragnarok

When Kratos was introduced 17 years ago in 2005 God of War on PS2, it seemed unlikely his story would go that far. But here we are nearly two decades later, continuing a journey that left dozens of dead gods behind, spanned most of Greek, Roman, and Norse mythology and continues to captivate gaming audiences.

The switch to Norse mythology and the addition of Kratos’ teenage son Atreus has obviously done the trick of reinvigorating the series and Kratos’ story, adding twists and turns to the ongoing discovery of Atreus’ origins and the future of father and son brought. Featuring a supporting cast of divine characters, huge action set pieces and even bigger battles – all graphically exquisite on PS5 –God of War Ragnarok is another Sony exclusive that absolutely stands out in 2022.

1. elden ring

A vast open fantasy world packed with encounters, razor sharp combat and unforgiving enemies, elden ring is an easy pick for Game of the Year as it captivated players with its gameplay, graphics, world design and overall challenge.

elden ring is the kind of game that creates a shared gaming experience out of the trials of its difficulty and the triumphs of success. The change that FromSoftware has made from its previous, more linear games Elden Rings The freedom of the open world makes it more personal for the players and offers a truly unique gaming experience. If there’s only one game this year that deserves the attention of hardcore gamers, elden ring is it.
