MultiVersus Adds Spectator Mode To Custom Games

MultiVersus’ latest patch includes a lot of the usual balance adjustments and bug fixes, but underneath that is a new mode – Spectator. You can now watch custom games with up to four friends and even watch bot games to see “which bot will win”.

Game Director Tony Huynh confirmed that Spectator mode was coming two months ago when someone said on Twitter: “I wish Mvs had lobbies like Ult where multiple people can join and watch or wait in line. @Tony_Huynh You should check it out in the future”. He replied, “Very soon for Spectate”, and now, here it is.

Fans have been asking for it since launch, particularly in custom games to make competitive play more viable. Being able to spectate makes it easier to host tournaments as people can log in and out instead of the host having to manually sort people in and out each time. And if you only play occasionally, you can take turns fighting and watching your friends get kicked while you’re not playing.

The patch notes also confirm that MultiVersus “has plans to allow more combo routes on Batman from his jab combo” as well as plans “to add additional counterplay to Jake’s air down special and skateboard combo.” Neither will be addressed in this patch, but both are things MultiVersus is investigating for future updates.

At the beginning it said: “We want to push Morty more in the direction of a bruiser, but the changes could not be implemented for this patch. The goal is for Morty to have more of a combo play while reducing a bit of his projectile utility.”

And then there’s Black Adam. His bot’s AI had a bug that caused it to call itself and essentially throw games, but you won’t be able to see this in the new Spectator mode since it’s been patched out.
