The NHL Department of Player Safety announced Saturday that Seattle Kraken defenseman Jamie Oleksiak has been suspended for three games for illegally checking Washington Capitals defenseman Alexander Alexeyev during Friday’s game at Capital One Arena.
Minutes after clinching his first NHL point, Alexeyev left the team in the second half, looking severely uncomfortable, and headed down the tunnel after Oleksiak’s goal, who received a match penalty for an illegal check to the head .
After review, Jamie Oleksiak issued a match penalty for that goal against Alexander Alexeyev.
You can talk about intent or Oleksiak’s size, but the bottom line is that that kind of hit can’t be in play. Major is the right call. pic.twitter.com/zNeR4XX1pt

The Capitals announced at the second break that Alexeyev would not be returning to the game due to an upper-body injury. On Saturday morning, the NHL Player Safety Division announced that Oleksiak would have a hearing on the incident.
There was no update from the Capitals regarding Alexeyev’s status. The Capitals are beginning a two-game road trip with a stop in Winnipeg where they face the Jets at the Canada Life Center on Sunday. NBC Sports Washington will have coverage beginning at 7:00 p.m. ET.
