It’s hard to believe after two weeks of incredible action, but the intensity on the griddle only increases as we tune into the Friday night playlist of Week 3 of the high school football season. The reason is simple: district game.
There are 12 games you can watch on the Big Game Coverage (BGC) app over the course of Friday and Saturday nights, and half of those matches feature teams versus district opponents. The best of this group are two of the top five teams in the top 12 of KSAT 12:
BGC Match of the Week: #5 Harlan vs. #2 Brennan, Gustafson Stadium, 7pm
There’s a good chance the District 29-6A championship game will be played this Friday night. In her third season in Class 6A, Harlan will be aiming for one of the biggest wins in program history against traditional powerhouse Brennan. The Bears have owned the Hawks in their previous two matchups, winning by an average margin of 26 points. Last year, Brennan won an impressive 44-10 en route to an undefeated regular season and a district title.

But that was last year. Harlan is adamant that things will be different this time. Both teams will take the football field after scoring blowout wins in Week 2. Brennan drove past Brandeis 42-6 while Harlan Laredo demolished Alexander 45-7. We’ll find out who comes out on top in round three of this burgeoning Northside rivalry.
Floresville vs Somerset, Bulldog Stadium, 7pm
Yes, District Matchups are heating up and Week 3 results will have a big impact on season-ending leaderboards. But one of the best matchups on Friday night’s schedule is an out-district Class 4A showdown between Floresville and Somerset. Both the Tigers and Bulldogs go into Friday’s meeting with tied 2-0 records, and they’ve each shown they can win through blowouts or low-goal matters. In Week 1, Floresville sped past Lanier 48-7, then in Week 2 the Tigers beat Southwest 21-14. Somerset followed a similar path, following a dominant 42-14 win over Highlands with a hard-fought 23-14 win over Southside in the Battle of 1604.

The last time these two teams played it was an instant classic. Somerset capped a dramatic fourth-quarter rally, winning a District 15-5A Division II shootout 56-48. What surprises does this year’s meeting hold?
BGC Road Trip Preview: D’Hanis, Hondo and Medina Valley
None of the three games on this week’s BGC Road Trip will be streamed live, but the matchups are still very entertaining. For the first time in recent memory, D’Hanis will be playing a high school football game at home on a Friday night. The Cowboys traditionally play on Saturday nights to allow community members to travel to watch Hondo’s home football games on Fridays and support both programs. Both D’Hanis and Hondo are on the itinerary for this week’s road trip:
-
Crossing (0-2) vs. D’Hanis (1-1), Butch Woolls Stadium, 7 p.m
-
bracket (1-1) vs. hondo (1-1), Barry Field, 7 p.m
-
SW heritage (0-2) vs. Medina Valley (0-2), Panther Stadium, 7 p.m
