If your tank if full of gas right now; Earth it and it should go to full.
If your tank if full of gas right now; Check the dash to chassis earth connection next.
When i connected the new sending unit up. the gauge went to empty (which it was) when power was applied. So maybe you ought to check the sending unit before you buy a new gauge.
I dont really want to fix it. My fuel gauge was reading fine empty up to about half a tank. anything over and the gauge would peg to full even with 3/4 tank of gas.
The sending unit in the tank is bad. The ecu is seperate to the gauges the ecu just controls the engine/fuel injection/timing. sorry i didnt mention that
When the sending unit terminals are shorted out the maximum current flows through the gauge and this causes the gauge to read full. A faulty fuel gauge sender may cause the gauge to suddenly change positions. or give an inaccurate reading.
If The Gauge Stays Full No Matter What. Then The Gauge Is Bad Or Possibly The.
Okay fuel gauge goes straight past full when ignition is switched on i read a lot of forums which pointed at the voltage stabilizer . i replaced this and it did not fix the issue. i wanted to go out in her today so i took the rear bench out and took out the lift pump/sender. i thought i would switch on the ignition. This condition is a less common sign of an issue with the fuel gauge sending unit. Removing The Sending Unit Wire From The Chassis Ground The Fuel Gauge Should Go Directly To “Full”.
Take the sender wire off the fuel gauge. When the tank begins to empty. the float goes down and resistance of the unit drops. Without a load on the gauge. the fuel gauge pegged to full when power was applied and not connected to a sending unit.
