When i connected the new sending unit up. the gauge went to empty (which it was) when power was applied. So maybe you ought to check the sending unit before you buy a new gauge.

I dont really want to fix it. My fuel gauge was reading fine empty up to about half a tank. anything over and the gauge would peg to full even with 3/4 tank of gas.
