STEINIGER BACH, NY — After amassing six conference tournament titles, seven regular-season championships, six NCAA tournament appearances and an unforgettable run to the College World Series in 2012, the Seawolves are ready to begin their new season in the Colonial Athletic Association as head coaches Matt Senk announced the schedule for 2023 on Friday.
“This year’s schedule reflects what we are adopting as a program. It is full of exciting challenges and great opportunities. Our players and coaches are fully committed to tackling these challenges and opportunities, which we hope will end in a successful season.” We’ve done that a lot in the past,” said the head coach Matt Senk said when he turned 33approx year at the top of the program.
The Seawolves’ schedule includes 26 games at Joe Nathan Field, a 30-game Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) relay, and non-conference trips to Los Angeles, Troy, Chapel Hill and West Point. All conference matchups consist of three game series, all at the same location. The conference tournament begins on May 24, 2023 in Charleston SC
The Stony Brook baseball team will begin their season out west when the Seawolves travel to Los Angeles, Calif. on February 17-19 to take on California State – Northridge. After their match in the City of Angels, the team will travel to Alabama for the first time in program history on February 24-26 to take on Troy University. After traveling south, Stony Brook returns home to fight Saint Peter’s University for their home opener on February 28 at 3:00 p.m
In March, roster formation begins with a three-game streak (March 3-5) at Chapel Hill’s reigning ACC champion and NCAA regional champion, the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. Shortly after the trip to Chapel Hill, the team will return to the Empire State to face New York City rivals, the Fordham University Rams, in an out-of-conference matchup on March 7 at Jack Coffey Field.
The squad can play six straight games in front of the Faithful at Joe Nathan Field before Stony Brook begins conference play. Stony Brook welcomes Long Island University on March 8 at 3 p.m., Lafayette College for a three-game set on March 10-12, Iona University on March 14 at 3 p.m. and Central Connecticut State University on March 15 at 3:00 p.m
Stony Brook will play his first games in his new conference against the CAA Regular Season Champions, College of Charleston in a three-game series in South Carolina (March 17-19). After a midweek non-conference competition at LIU (March 21), roster UNC Wilmington (March 24-26) will host for their CAA home opener. The Seawolves end their month of March with an out-of-conference matchup on March 28 at Stony Brook against Iona University.
The month of April begins with Stony Brook heading to the reigning CAA Conference champions, Hofstra University (March 31-April 2). Over the next two weekends, the squad will battle William & Mary (April 7-9) and Northeastern (April 14-16) at Joe Nathan Field. Before the Seawolves end their month with a home series against North Carolina A&T (April 28-30), the Seawolves travel to Elon to face Phoenix on April 21-23. Stony Brook plays three Tuesdays a month, as the host for Manhattan (April 4), on the way to West Point (April 11) and as Manhattan in Ponoma NY (April 18).
The final month of the regular season begins with a home game against Fairfield (May 2). The team then travels to Delaware to take on the Fightin’ Blue Hens (May 5-7). After traveling to the First State, Stony Brook returns home for his final non-conference game of the season against Sacred Heart (May 10) and hosts Monmouth (May 12-14) for his home regular season break up. A road trip to Towson (May 18-20) will cap off the Seawolves’ first regular season in the CAA.
The 2022 CAA tournament will be held May 24-28 at The Ballpark at Patriots Point on the College of Charleston campus.
