East Basketball uses big second halves to win both of their games vs. Laramie

CHEYENNE, Wyoming (Wyoming News Now) – The high school basketball conference schedule is now underway, and that brought two big 4A Southeast games to the Thunderdome.

The Laramie girls team were on their way to a perfect 12-0 on Thursday night to knock out an East side who had just broken their own record unbeaten streak. The first half of the game was extremely competitive; third-placed Lady Plainsmen went into the break just a header down. However, the reigning champions and number two Lady T-Birds of 4A found another gear in the final two quarters, becoming the first team to defeat Laramie this season by a score of 59-47.

The beginning of the encounter between the boys’ teams was quite similar to the previous game. East would run, then Laramie would respond with one of her own. The T-Birds eventually built a more comfortable half-time lead before opening the game wide in the second half. Nathan Mirich seemed to automatically come from beyond the three-point line for senior East, and the Plainsmen had no answers for him. Mirich’s game helped his team to a comfortable 77-56 victory.
