College football scores, schedule, games today: West Virginia vs. Pitt kicks off Thursday’s Week 1 action

College football fans craving the full action of Week 1 will have the luxury of an early 16-game Thursday night start ahead of the first full Saturday of play of the season. Although only six of Thursday’s competitions will pit teams from the Football Bowl subdivision against each other, three ranked teams will be among those in action.

First up is a repeat of the Backyard Brawl as Pitt No. 17 and West Virginia go head-to-head for the first time since 2011 in what could be a hard-fought rivalry showdown. At the same time, the 12th state of Oklahoma, which will seek revenge for a 2016 home loss to Central Michigan, begins. No. 22 Wake Forest rounds out the standings playing Thursday, with the Demon Deacons hosting VMI with Mitch Griffis at quarterback while star QB Sam Hartman awaits medical clearance.

Outside the top 25, Penn State and Purdue face off in a Big Ten showdown, and Minnesota takes on its former coach, Jerry Kill, who now leads New Mexico State. CBS Sports will keep you updated at every step throughout the evening with the latest scores, highlights and storylines. All times Easter
