It’s been over seven months since Kansas rallied against North Carolina and captured the national championship in New Orleans. A new college basketball season is finally upon us. The 2022-23 campaign kicks off across the country on Monday, with all 25 ranked teams in action throughout the day and well into the night.
No. 5 Baylor tipped the scales early in the day by defeating Mississippi Valley State 117-53 after getting contributions from 10 players. Action starts en masse in the evening as No. 4 Kentucky, No. 16 Villanova and No. 22 Michigan are all favorites to play at home at 6:30 p.m.
The games continue throughout the night, culminating with UCLA hosting No. 8 Sacramento State at 11:30 p.m. in what should be an eventful first night of college hoops. While there are no obvious marquee matchups, the night will give us our first look at most of the national contenders.
Also, given that this is college basketball — a sport that thrives on surprises — it wouldn’t be shocking to see some stunning results as teams try to iron out their early-stage weaknesses.
