The Callaway girls basketball team rolled over Eagle’s Landing 56-28 on Saturday to sail to their second region win in as many days.
The Cavaliers put it out of reach early when Lacey Thomas put on a show in the first quarter, scoring 10 of her high 17 points to boost offense. By the end of the first quarter, the Cavaliers had established an insurmountable 23-5 lead.
The second quarter was similar. An offensive rebound and a putback from Thomas when the buzzer rang gave the Cavaliers a 33-12 lead going into the second quarter.
The second half was no different as Callaway drove to an easy win.
Thomas wasn’t the only one to dominate – Keiyunna Maddox scored from all over the court to finish the game with 14 points while also opening the offense as a point guard. Raniya Mahone scored 12 points to also fuel offense and could have had more had she been more sober from the charity streak. Aniyah McFarland also had nine points for the Cavaliers.
Callaway improved to 6-2 and has bounced back well after their first two losses of the season before going on to have back-to-back losses on Friday and Saturday. The Cavaliers are second in the 5-AA region with a 5-1 record. Callaway will have a tough test next time the Columbia region leaders host the Cavaliers on Tuesday.
