Best unverified Steam Deck games: Top Playable and Untested games for your handheld

Looking for the best Unreviewed Steam Deck Games rated Playable or Untested? We’ll cover you.

The Steam Deck has quickly become one of the most popular tech devices, and that’s because it brings the potential of PC gaming to a whole new audience.

A big part of this is logging into the console and finding hundreds of verified games you already own, but while Valve has tested many titles, there are plenty of others that haven’t earned that green tick yet.

Some, like the ones on this list, get the “Playable” designation and can run almost perfectly with some minor tweaking, while others have not been tested at all.

Here are the best unvetted steam deck games that you can currently play on your steam deck as tested by us. You can find the best Steam Deck games, including verified ones, in our list.

Baldur’s Gate III

Baldur's Gate 3 voice actorsLarian Studios

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a complex role-playing game that is almost ready

Larian’s latest RPG is still in Early Access, but runs on Steam Deck. While the developer’s previous game, Divinity Original Sin II, is verified, Baldur’s Gate 3 may require a bit of on-screen keyboard work during setup.

You should also opt to run the game on Direct X (as opposed to Vulkan), but it’s worth it for a complex, decision-oriented RPG with various character classes. Expect things to get better this year as well when the final release arrives.

Why isn’t it verified? Baldur’s Gate 3 may require the touchscreen or virtual keyboard during setup and may have hard-to-read text. It’s also missing Steam deck icons and may require the keyboard (Steam key + X).

Borderlands 3 is great on Steam Deck.

Sure, you can play the Borderlands games on Switch, but Borderlands 3 never made the leap to Nintendo’s handheld hybrid. On Steam Deck, however, the game runs beautifully at 60 FPS, and its mix of looting and shooting is just as fun with the deck’s great analog sticks and triggers.

With a sizable campaign and thousands of weapons to earn, it helps us overcome the fact that Destiny 2 doesn’t run on the Steam deck.

Why isn’t it verified? Borderlands 3 may require the use of the on-screen keyboard (Steam key + X) and some text may be difficult to read (mainly subtitles and some item descriptions).

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

Sure it’s old, but it’s still fun.

The oldest game on this list, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow brought the 2D series to 3D in a God of War-esque adventure starring voice talents Patrick Stewart, Jason Isaacs and Robert Carlyle. Hideo Kojima is also a producer.

It’s 13 years old now (although the PC port came later), but it’s still a fun hack-and-slash adventure that’s one of Steam’s best unvetted deck games – despite Valve’s listing of the states that it is not supported.

Why isn’t it verified? While Valve notes that the game is completely unsupported, we were able to get it working with Proton GE.

citizen sleeper

Looking for something different? Citizen Sleeper was quietly one of the best games of 2022 and nominated at the Game Awards, but this sleeper hit (sorry) may have crept under your radar.

Inspired by tabletop roleplaying games, the game offers a roleplaying experience based on choices and conversations as opposed to combat. It can freeze, but running it on newer versions of Proton can fix that.

Final Fantasy XIV

FFXIV needs no introduction as one of the biggest MMOs out there, and since it was designed for console, it translates surprisingly well to Steam deck controls.

While you can install the non-Steam version, there are workarounds to get your non-Steam character in game, and you’ll have to log in every time, but it’s a small price to pay for Eorzea in the palm of your hand must .

Why isn’t it verified? You need to open the on-screen keyboard (Steam key + X) to login and for in-game text input.

Gotham Knights

Gotham Knights is a great handheld adventure.

We praised Gotham Knights more than some reviewers, but WB Montreal’s Bat Family Adventure is a great fit for the Steam deck, thanks to the option to switch between characters and go on patrol at any time.

The game runs well in our tests, and while it can drain the battery fairly quickly, it’s worth a try if you own it.

Why isn’t it verified? Some in-game text is small and can be difficult to read.

encryption

Encryption is creepy in a way that we find difficult to hide.

Looking for something completely new? Inscryption is a bizarre card game set in a mysterious hut in front of a shadowy pair of eyes. It’s disconcerting, but the core mechanics are so good that you can’t help but play another round.

From there it grows outward in unexpected ways, including escape room elements and horror. Saying too much more would spoil things, so play it late at night on your deck (and add controller support to avoid the trackpad, too).

Why isn’t it verified? You may need the on-screen keyboard (Steam key + X) and there are non-Steam deck controller icons.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak

Chaotic Gore MagalaCapcom

The Sunbreak DLC also works on Steam Deck.

One of the best games of 2021, Monster Hunter Rise came to PC in 2022, and its Sunbreak expansion followed not long after.

With a massive array of monsters to kill, gear to craft, and co-op play, the only disappointment is the aspect ratio – but that can be adjusted with the REFramework mod.

Why isn’t it verified? You may need the on-screen keyboard (Steam key + X).

monster train

Monster Train runs almost perfectly on the Steam Deck.

Sure, it’s already on our list of the best Steam deck games, but Monster Train is unverified, so it deserves a spot on this list.

A rogue-lite deck builder in the style of Slay the Spire, the game takes place on multiple levels in a train to hell. You’ll have to defend multiple levels and recruit monsters wisely to make it there in one piece.

Why isn’t it verified? Some in-game text is small and can be difficult to read.

Yu-Gi-Oh: Master Duel

Blue-Eyes White Dragon Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duelkonami

It’s about time… well, you know the rest.

Whether you’re a fan of the anime, a competitive collector and player, or a total Yu-Gi-Oh newbie, Master Duel is a great place to start.

It’s the most detailed digital recreation of the card game to date, and while there’s no story-based mode, it’s a free-to-play game packed with incredible monsters to summon and set traps, with a robust online mode.

Why isn’t it verified? You occasionally need to bring up the on-screen keyboard (Steam key + X).
