WASHINGTON- #19 GW Men’s Water Polo is targeting 14th and 15th straight wins, taking on Saturday’s Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers (12pm) and Bucknell Bison (6pm).
The Colonials start the day with a game in Emmitsburg, MD before making the two-hour trip to Lewisburg, PA.
Last time:
GW hosted three MAWPC games at the Charles E. Smith Center last weekend and put on a show. The weekend began with an 11-9 win over Bucknell on Saturday afternoon and a 15-10 win over Wagner on Saturday night. The weekend ended with a 14:12 win over Navy.
Rank Up:
GW has moved up to 19th alone in the most recent CWPA polls. The Buff and Blue earned a season-high 13 points in the poll, up from eight points in last week’s poll. GW is second in the MAWPC poll, just a point behind #18 Fordham.
Appeal to Castorina:
goalkeeper Luke Castorina was a big part of GW’s success. Castorina has played in all 14 games this season, posting a .553 save ratio that is keeping the Colonials in many games. GW won two of their three games by two goals last weekend, largely thanks to Castorina’s spectacular saves.
More about the climbers:
The Mount St. Mary water polo team enters the competition with an 11-6 record, including a 4-3 record in conference. The Mountaineers have dropped MAWPC games to Navy, Fordham and Salem but have found success against Mercyhurst, Gannon, McKendree and most recently Johns Hopkins. Tommaso Baldineti leads the Mountaineers with 90 goals, including a 10-goal blast in their game against Gannon.
About Bucknell:
Bucknell goes into the weekend 9-7, with a 6-2 record in conference. The Bison haven’t played since they fell against GW at the Smith Center last weekend. Bucknell hosts Johns Hopkins at 12pm on Saturday before hosting the Colonials at 6pm for a repeat of last weekend. Aleksa Stefanovic remains Bucknell’s top scorer with 44 goals in 14 games played.
