10 Bad Levels In Great Games, According To Reddit

As if fans didn’t need another excuse to play it, Capcom completely remade it Resident Evil 4 from scratch, and there’s a laundry list of special editions. The original release was one of the most influential survival horror games of all time, but some Redditors think that as great as it is, it also has one of the worst designed levels of all time.

Reddit users have pulled up tons of levels from their favorite games, bringing the fun experience to a halt. Between large but lifeless environments, mind-numbing escort levels, and restrictive hallway missions in otherwise sprawling games, these levels could have been completely excised.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Celosia – Shadow of the Colossus (2005)

Shadow of the Colossus is one of the most artistic and visually stunning video games of all time, not to mention the greatest story-driven PS2 game. It was even the one game that acclaimed film critic Roger Ebert played to understand if games could be as good a format for storytelling as movies (via Rogerebert.com).

Though many think it’s bug-free, one deleted user credits the 11th Colossus, Celosia, as the only downside in the game. The Redditor comments, “My least favorite is this bull who’s afraid of fire but hangs around with fire in the only room in the whole Forbidden Land.” It’s the hardest part of the game, simply because players have to pick up a fire torch before they can be rammed by the colossus. But players have never been told how to pick up anything in the game up until this point, and it’s a complete idiot’s job.

Rush Hour – Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time (2020)

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time was a return to form for the series, and it felt like it was created by fans. It included everything fans of the original trilogy loved and even allowed players to control other characters like Tawna and Dingodile, but that’s exactly what’s wrong with Rush Hour.

CerN hates the level, mentioning that it’s not only the worst level in the sprawling 2020 video game, but that it’s the “worst level in the entire quadrilogy.” The problem is that the level takes hours if players want to find all the crates, and in a game where players are rewarded for dying fewer than three times, that’s almost an impossibility in Rush Hour. It doesn’t come close to being one of the best crash bandicoot 4 levels.

Downtown Minneapolis – Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 (2020)

Since remaking old video games is an established trend at this point, arguably it wasn’t done any better than Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2, which rebuilt the first two games in the series from the ground up. But it doesn’t matter how great the developer is, Kajander thinks it’s impossible to make Downtown Minneapolis as entertaining as the other levels.

The Redditor complains, “It’s kind of lifeless. And the cabs! fuck her Having said that, I have to say that this remastered version of Downtown is of course much better than the original. But it was even more frustrating.” While the user points out that it feels lifeless and it’s one of the worst Pro Skater 1 maps, there’s so much satisfaction in reaching those hard-to-reach secret rooftops.

Yoga—Grand Theft Auto V (2013)

LazyLamont92 points to the sluggish and tiring yoga levels in the otherwise groundbreaking Grand Theft Auto V, which is the gold standard of open-world gaming. While the Yoga missions are entirely optional, they’re still required if players want to achieve the coveted 100% completion, and it’s set in one of the key story levels that can’t be skipped.

However, the Redditor puts it on a positive note, positing, “I hate the yoga mission, but what I loved about it was that it was designed that way. It’s like the devs wanted you to feel the pain and frustration Michael felt doing those cops ***.” That perspective makes the level more interesting, but no less painful.

Chapters 4 & 5 – Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (2011)

After almost perfect Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Naughty Dog delivered another exciting adventure game full of exotic locations and colorful characters. But Uncharted00 refers to the single worst part of the game, which is Chapters 4 and 5 (“Run to Ground” and “London Underground”).

However, it’s one of the few missions where the whole gang is together, as Sully, Nate, Nadine, and Charlie Cutter all work together and their back-and-forth banter is endlessly entertaining. Unfortunately, that doesn’t quite make up for the lack of gameplay, which consists mostly of running, shooting, and cover.

Carpathians – Hitman III (2021)

Meanwhile the hit man Franchise is such a well-oiled machine, and it’s gotten into a rhythm that’s hard to find fault with, as each level is a huge, sprawling map filled with tons of different possibilities. And that’s exactly why LKBD thinks the Carpathians are at ground level Hitman III sticking out like a sore thumb.

The Redditor explains, “It was so boring to play. A linear mission is never good to have hit manThe developers should have known that absolution.” It doesn’t feel like one hit man Mission as it is totally linear and there is only one direction the player can go with very few results. And since the series is best known for Agent 47’s ridiculous disguises, the wardrobe department is extremely lacking in sophistication.

The Excavator – Batman: Arkham Knight (2015)

Batman: Arkham Knight It’s great value for money as the game is so extensive and driving through Arkham in the Batmobile alone is worth the price. Or at least it would be if the Batmobile wasn’t so clunky to handle, and it was one of the most criticized parts of the otherwise acclaimed game.

Fantast1c_Mr_Fox thinks the final Batmobile sequence where players have to dodge the excavator is the worst level in a great game. The Redditor comments: “I tried it for about three hours in one afternoon and just couldn’t beat it.

Controlling Ashley – Resident Evil 4 (2005)

WormsGarrett hates the chapter in Resident Evil 4 where players must control both Leon and Ashley. The Redditor comments, “Pretty cool the first time, but pretty boring after, but still not too bad because you can get through it in about 6 minutes.”

While the user thinks Ashley brings down the iconic survival horror game, she makes the escort quests so much fun. And the players control them once Leon has stormed the castle, and it’s the most aesthetically pleasing act of the whole game. But there’s still no denying that controlling them with their few skills can be exhausting.

Panty Raid – Bully (2006)

bullying is one of the game-changing PlayStation 2 games, and fans have long wanted to have it rumoured bully 2 here for 15 years. But not even nostalgia can hide the creepiness of one of the game’s most embarrassing levels. Bogdi504 references “Panty Raid,” a mission in which the player “steals an underage girl’s panties for a middle-aged teacher.”

It is Leisure Suit Larry Levels of dirt, and even though Jimmy is doing it against his will as ordered by the gym teacher, there’s something about it that feels inherently gross. Game developer Rockstar and the game in general are heavily satirical, but this level takes the game’s concept way too far.

The Helicopter – Far Cry 3 (2012)

The most amazing thing Far cry 3 is Vaas, the terrifyingly sinister villain almost as iconic as any movie villain. And the character enhances what is already a great game. After two-thirds of the game, however, it is revealed that he is not the main antagonist and then things unwittingly go downhill.

YogurtWenk considers one of the final sequences after the player defeats the true villain, Hoyt Volker, to be the worst level. The Redditor notes, “Almost at the end of Far cry 3 where you have to shoot stuff out of the helicopter. I was playing Classic on PS4 so maybe it’s just broken in this version.” The level has always been buggy as it’s a 10 minute track where players are limited to a machine gun in the rear of the helicopter, and it’s nothing more than a mindless point-and-shoot exercise.
